Pathogen | disease causing microorganisms (germs) in the body. |
Generalized Infection | (systemic) affecting the whole body. |
Localized Infection | affecting one area of the body. |
Germ Theory | states that specific microorganisms, called bacteria, are the cause of specific diseases in both human and animals. |
Communicable | a disease that may be transmitted either by direct contact and indirect contact. |
Normal Flora | Not harmful but actually helpful. Microorganisms that commonly live in a particular part of the body. |
Immune System | defense used by the body to fight infection by producing antibodies. |
Defense Mechanisms | present in the body to resist infection. |
Clia | little hair in different places in your body, helps to move things along/ trap bacteria. |
Nosocomial Infection | an infection that occurs while a patient is receiving health care. |
CDC | Center for Disease Control and Prevention- government agency that is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services . Safety guidelines help prevent /control the spread of infection. |
Standard Precaution | precaution use when coming in contact with a patients body fluids. |
OSHA | Occupational Safety and Health Administration Government. established minimum health and safety standards for the workplace and to enforce those standards. |
Asepsis | used to make the patient, the worker, and the environment as pathogen as possible. |
Medical Asepsis | Clean Technique- not killing all the germs. |
Surgical Asepsis | Sterile Technique - killing all the germs |
