Feudalism Vocabulary

| Feudalism | the economic and political system of medieval Europe in which people exchanged loyalty and labor for a lord's protection |
| barbarian | a person belonging to a tribe or group that is considered uncivilized |
| Roman Catholic Church | the Christian church headed by the pope of Rome -Where Clovis and many other people went to and were baptized |
| pope | Leader of a church |
| monarch | a ruler, such a king or queen |
| fief | land granted by a lord to a vassal in exchange for loyalty and service |
| manor | a large estate, including farmland and villages, held by a lord. In country.Peasants did work. Not many supplies came |
| divine right | the idea that God had given monarchs the right to rule |
| noble | a person of high rank by birth or title |
| duke | the highest type of European noble, ranking just below a prince |
| hierarchy | a system of organizing people with ranks, with those of higher rank having more power and privileges. |
| chivalry | the medieval knight’s code of ideal behavior, including bravery, loyalty, and respect for women |
