What is the difference between original and appellate court cases? Original cases involved representatives of foreign governments or disputes among states. Appellate cases are appealed from lower court of appeals or district courts
What are the three duties of the justices? 1) They must decide which case needs to be heard. 2) They must make a decision on the case itself. 3) They must provide an explanation for final decision, also know as opinion
What are the judicial powers of Congress? 1) Power to set # of justices 2) Power to set justice's salary w/o reduction 3) Power to impeach SC justices
What are the duties of Chief Justice? 1) He/She directs sessions and conferences concerning cases 2) Carry out leadership role in court's judicial work 3) Administer Federal Court System
What do law clerks do? read appeals filed w/ the court and write summaries based on information
What is the role of the American Bar Association? It is the largest nat'l organization of attorneys that determines eligibility of candidates for judicial positions in the SC, Court of appeals, and District Courts
