Sternohyoid | Origin: manubrium of sternum; Insertion: hyoid; Action: depresses hyoid |
Sternothyroid | Origin: manubrium of sternum; Insertion: thyroid cartilage of larynx; Action: depresses thyroid cartilage |
Omohyoid | Origin: superior surface of scapula; Insertion: hyoid; Action: depresses hyoid |
Platysma | Origin: fascia covering pectoralis major and deltoid; Insertion: mandible and skin of lower region of face; Action: depresses lower lip, opens jaw |
Digastric | Origin: inferior, distal margin of mandible (anterior belly), mastoid notch of temporal (posterior belly); Insertion: hyoid; Action: elevates, protracts, and retracts hyoid, opens mandible |
Mylohyoid | Origin: inner, inferior margin of mandible; Insertion: body of hyoid and median raphe; Action: elevates hyoid and tongue |
