| interest group | organizations of people with common interests who try to influence government policies and decisions |
| lobby | another word for an interest group |
| nominate | to select candidates to run for office |
| propaganda | ideas used to influence people's thinking or behavior |
| two-party system | a political system with two strong political parties |
| primary election | an election in which the voters of various parties choose candidates to run for office in a general election |
| general election | an election in which the voters elect their leaders |
| contribution | the act of giving something to someone |
