Supahyoid/Infrahyoid

Anatomy

QuestionAnswer
What is the origin of the Digastric for the Surprahyoid muscle? Poserior belly: mastoid notch of temporal bone Anterior belly: digastric fossa of internal mandible
What is the insertion of the Digastric for the Surprahyoid muscle? Body of hyoid: both bellies meet and attach by a pulley tendon
What is the action of the Digastric for the Surprahyoid muscle? Elevation of the hyoid bone. Depression of the mandible. Stabalize the hyoid bone for infrahyoid action.
What is the innervation of the Digastric for the Surprahyoid muscle? Poster belly: Facial nerve (CN Vll) Anterior belly: trigemental nerve (CN V)
What is the origin of the Stylohyiod for the Suprahyoid muscle? Styloid process of the temporal bone
What is the insertion of the Stylohyiod for the Suprahyoid muscle? Lateral margin of the hyoid bone (base of greater horn)
What is the action of the Stylohyiod for the Suprahyoid muscle? Elevation of hyoid bone (swalling). Stabalize hyoid bone for infrahyoid action.
What is the innervation of the Stylohyiod for the Suprahyoid muscle? Facial nerve (CN Vll)
What is the origin of the Geniohyoid for the Suprahyoid muscle? Inner surface of the mandible (mental spine)
What is the insertion of the Geniohyoid for the Suprahyoid muscle? Body of hyoid (paired muscle seperated by the septum)
What is the action of the Geniohyoid for the Suprahyoid muscle? Elevation of hyoid bone. Depresses the mandible (works with mylohyoid)
What is the innervation of the Geniohyoid for the Suprahyoid muscle? Hypoglossal nerve (CN Xll)
What is the origin of the Mylohyoid for the Suprahyoid muscle? Inner surface of the mandible (mylohyoid line)
What is the insertion of the Mylohyoid for the Suprahyoid muscle? Body of hyoid (anterior surface)
What is the action of the Mylohyoid for the Suprahyoid muscle? Elevation of the hyoid bone. Depresses the mandible when hyoid is fixed.
What is the innervation of the Mylohyoid for the Suprahyoid muscle? Trigeminal nerve (CN V- mandibular division, V3.
What is the origin of the Thyrahyoid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Thyroid cartilage (oblique line)
What is the insertion of the Thyrahyoid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Body of hyoid bone
What is the action of the Thyrahyoid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Depression of the hyoid bone. Elevation of thyroid cartilage (Larynx)
What is the innervation of the Thyrahyoid of the Infrahyoid muscle? C1 (via CN Xll)
What is the origin of the Sternothyroid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Manubrium of the sternum (posterior)
What is the insertion of the Sternothyroid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Thyroid cartilage (oblique line)
What is the action of the Sternothyroid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Depression of the thyroid cartilage. Acts eccentrically with suprahyoid muscle to provide them with a stable base.
What is the innervation of the Sternothyroid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Ansa cervicalis C1-C2-C3 (Loop of nerves part of cervical plexus)
What is the origin of the Sternohyoid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Manubrium & sternoclavicular joint (posterior aspect of both)
What is the insertion of the Sternohyoid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Body of hyoid
What is the action of the Sternohyoid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Depression of the hyoid and larynx
What is the innervation of the Sternohyoid of the Infrahyoid muscle? Ansa cervicalis C1- C2- C3
What is the origin of the Omohyoid of the Inrahyoid muscle? Superior belly: Hyoid bone (lateral to sternohyoid) Inferior belly: Superior scapular border
What is the insertion of the Omohyoid of the Inrahyoid muscle? Clavicle- both bellies meet and are held loosely to the clavicle by a pulley tendon
What is the action of the Omohyoid of the Inrahyoid muscle? Depression of hyoid bone and larynx
What is the innervation of the Omohyoid of the Inrahyoid muscle? Ansa cervicalis C1- C2- C3
