Vocab Griffin 5-8

This is a vocab. practice for Griffin vocab chapters 5-8.

What does Affirm mean? To say that something is true in a confident way. Or to show a strong belief in or dedication to (something, such as an important idea)
What does Contrariness mean? State of being opposite in nature.
What does Tenure mean? The right to a job (especially being a professor at a collage or university) for as long as you want.
What does Illiterate mean? Not knowing how to read or write. Having or showing lack of knowledge.
What does Stead mean? To have an advantage over another.
What does Laurels mean? Honor or fame given for some achievement.
What does Virtues mean? Morally good behavior or character. Or the good result that comes from something
What does Slothful mean? Slow moving, lazy or doesn't want to put much effort into something.
What does Exult mean? To feel or show great happiness, or to say (something) in a very excited and happy way.
What does Susceptible mean? Easily affected, influenced. Or harmed by someone capable of being affected by a specified action or process.
What does Irrevocable mean? Not capable of being changed. Impossible to revoke.
What does Inconceivable mean? Impossible to imagine or believe.
What does Studious mean? Very serious about studying, reading, and learning.
What does Thwart mean? To prevent (someone) from doing something or to stop (something) from happening.
What does Seethe mean? To feel or show strong emotion (such as anger) even though you try to control it.
What does Craggy mean? Rough in a way that suggests strength.
What does Contemporaries mean? Peers or people at about the same age as you.
What does Insolent mean? Rude or impolite. Or having a lack of respect for other people.
What does Burly mean? Strong and heavy. Or large in body size. Big "burly" muscles.
