Classify bones

Tissues and groups

TermDefinition
compact bone it looks smooth and homogeneous
spongy bone it is composed of small needle-like pieces of bone and lots of open space
long bone typically longer than they are wide
short bone generally cube-shaped and contain mostly spongy bone
flat bone thin, flattened, and usually curbed
irregular bone bones that don't fit in any other category
