What is palpation? An art form that develops over time. Involves the use of hands and fingertips to locate and investigate areas of the body
How should a therapist look after their hands? Hands should be clean, smooth and soft, and in good physical condition, nails are kept short, all wrist jewellery should be removed
Describe the shape of the scapula as well as where it is located A triangular shaped bone, forms the lateral and posterior aspect of the shoulder girdle
Where is the supraspinous fossa located? Above the spine of the scapula, on the posterior surface of the scapula
Where is the infraspinous fossa located? Below the spine of the scapula, on the posterior surface of the scapula
Where is the subscapular fossa located? On the anterior surface of the scaula
What is the common name for the scapula? Shoulder blade
What is the "socket" of the shoulder "ball and socket" joint called? Glenoid Cavity
How many vertebrae in the cervical spine? 7
How many vertebrae in the thoracic spine? 12
How many vertebrae in the lumbar spine? 5
I am located on each vertebrea, there is one of me and I protrude posteriorly. What am I? Spinous process
We are located on each vertebrae and we protude transversely. What are we? Transverse Processes
We live in between each vertebrae. What are we? Intervertebral discs
I am commonly known as the tail bone. What am I? Coccyx
How many parts of the sternum are there? 3
The clavicle is commonly known as what? The collarbone
What is top portion of the sternum called? Manubrium
How many sets of ribs are there? 12
How many sets of ribs attach directly to the sternum via costal cartilage? 7
What is the longgest bone of the upper limb? Humerus
The greater tubercle and lesser tubercle sit either side of me. What am I? Bicipital/Intertubercular Groove
What are the two bones of the forearm? Radius and Ulna
The point of the elbow is on which bone and what is it called? Ulna, Olecranon Process
What is the point of the distal radius and ulna called? Styloid Process
What are the bones of the wrist called? Carpals
What are the bones of the palm called? Metacarpals
What are the bones of the fingers called? Phalanges
Which digit of the hand do we consider to be the first? Thumb
