Who is in the Judicial branch? Supreme Court,and Lower Federal Courts
What are the jobs of the Executive branch? Proposes,approves,and enforces laws,makes treaties with other countries and leads the military
What are the jobs of the Legislative branch? Makes laws,raises money by collecting taxes or borrowing money,prints money,and declares war
What are the jobs of the Judicial branch? Decides whether laws follow the guidelines of the Constitution,decides what laws mean,and decides whether laws have to be followed
What are the levels of Government? Federal,State and Local
What are the jobs of the Federal Government? They control the entire country
What are the jobs of the State Government? They control a state
What are the jobs of the Local Government? They control a city,town,or districts
What are Checks and Balances? They are a system that let's each branch limit the power of the other 2
Why are Checks and Balances important for our government? They help prevent a branch of government becoming stronger than the other 2
What is the Bill of Rights? It is a list of rights of individuals such as freedom of speech and freedom of religon
Why was the Bill of Rights added to the Constitution? People wanted it added so that their individual rights could be recognized by the government
What was the 15th amendment? It allowed African-American men to vote
What was the 19th amendment? It allowed ALL women to vote
What was the 26th amendment? Instead of having to be 21 to vote you only have to be 18
Why was the 15th amendment added? To protect the voting rights of African-American men
Why was the 19th amendment added? To protect the voting rights of women
Why was the 26th amendment added? To increase voting rates
What does veto mean? To reject laws made by Congress
What does democracy mean? It is a government in which the people have the power to make political decisions
What does ratify mean? It means to accept
What does citizen mean? An official member of a state,city,or nation
What does amendment mean? `It is a change to the Constitution
What does unconstitutional mean? Does not follow rules laid out by Constitution
What does federal mean? is a system that states share power with the central government but the central government still has more power over the states
What does preamble mean? It is the beginning of the Constitution listing the goals of the U.S are listed
What are the Articles of Confederation? A list of what the colonists couldn't do and could do also the plan for the national government
What can citizens do to respect the U.S.A? Sing the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem also celebrating the 4th of July
