A reading clerk then reads the bill to the Representatives and the Speaker sends the bill to one of the standing committees. |

| What is the “Congressional power of the purse,” ? | Congressional exclusive power to authorize expenditures by all avenues of the federal government. |
| Why is the power of the purse important? | Since Congress can approve/deny funding requests from executive branch. Congress can in effect prevent president from carrying out policies they disagree with. |
