Government Institutions tat make authoritative decisions for society
Public Goods Services funded by the Government that everyone has equal access to (ex. National Parks)
Politics Who we select to rule in government and what policies they should focus on while in power.
Political Participation How people are involved in politics.
Single - Issue Groups Groups concerned on one issue that they allow it to sway their judgement on who they vote for.
Policy - making system How government responds to the priorities of the people.
Linkage Institutions Transmitting American concerns / cares to policy makers
Policy Agenda Issues that attract public officials and other political people
Political Issue When people disagree on a problem and whether or not it needs to be fixed
Policy Making Institutions Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches
Political Impacts Effect on policy on people / society.
Democracy Choosing policymakers that reflect one's preferences.
Majority rule When choosing something, the choice that over half of the voters support should be followed.
Minority Rights Basic principles - freedom of speech and assembly
Representation Relationship between the few leaders and the many citizens
Pluralist theory Groups with shared interests influence public policy by organizing
Elite and Class Theory Society is divided by class, and that the wealthy control the government.
Hyperpluralism That many groups (not just the elite) are so strong that government is unable to act (too many ways for groups to control policy)
Political Gridlock When no coalition is strong enough to form a majority and establish policy (ex: Republican Congress and Obama)
Political Culture Set of values widely shared with American society.
Gross Domestic Product Total value of goods and services provided every year by the U.S.
