Government and Public Administration

TermDefinition
Assessor An official who evaluates property for the purpose of taxing it.
Chamber of Commerce An association, primarily of people in business, to promote the commercial interests of an area.
Citizenship Relationship between an individual and a state in which an individual owes allegiance to that and in turn is entitled to its protection.
City Planning The activity or profession of determining the future physical arrangement and condition of a community.
Election Formal Process by which voters make their political choices on public issues or candidates for public office.
Executive Branch The branch of government charged with the execution and enforcement of laws and polices and the administration of public affairs.
Federal Government Pertaining to or of the nature of a union of states under a central government distant from the individual governments of the separate states.
Congress The supreme legislative body of a nation and especially of a republic.
Government The organization, machinery, or agency through which political unit exercises authority and performs functions and which is usually classified according to the distribution of power within it.
Governor The executive head of a astute in the U.S.
House of Representatives The lower legislative branch in many national and star bicameral governing bodies.
International Affairs Affairs between nations.
Judge A public officer authorized to hear and decide cases in court.
Judicial Branch The branch of government charged with the interpret ion of laws and the administration of justice.
Legislative Branch The branch of government having the power to make laws.
Legislator A person who gives or makes laws.
Local Government The administration of the civic affairs of a city, town,or district by its inhabitants rather than by the state or country at large.
Mayor The chief executive official, usually elected,of a city,village, or town.
National Security A collective term for the defense and foreign relations of a county; protection of the interests of a country.
Political having a definite policy or system of government.
Public Administration Refers to the implementation of government policy and to an academic discipline that studies this implantation and that prepares civil servants for working in the public service.
