chapter 36 vocab

Christianity The religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
baptize A ritual by which a person is welcomed into a religion.
Jesus A man who lived from about 6 B.C.E to 27 C.E and upon whose life and teachings Christianity is based. Christians refer to him as Jesus Christ.
disciple A person who helps spread the religious teachings of another.
Constantine A man who one day had a vision of a cross hanging in the sky in front of the sun around the cross were the words" in this sign you will conquer" his men went into battle with the word Christ on their shields and won.
parable A simple story that explains a moral or religious lesson.
Judea A remote territory on the eastern end of the Mediterranean sea where Jesus was born.
crucify Put someone to death by nailing or blinding them to a cross,especially as an ancient punishment.
prefect A high official in ancient Rome.
resurrect restore a dead person to life.
New testament Bible based off the Hebrew Bible.
gospels An account of the life and teachings of of Jesus Christ.
missionary Someone who tries to persuade others to believe in his or her religious teachings.
Messiah A savior that many Jews believed had been promised by God.
