congruent line segments line segments that have equal length
between the position of a point that has collinear points on either side; if point B is between points A and C, then the length of AB plus the length of BC equals the length of AC
coordinate a number on a number line or axis, giving the location of a point
length of a line segment the distance between the segment’s endpoints
number line a line for which every point corresponds to a real number and every real number corresponds to a point
x-axis the horizontal number line in a coordinate plane
x-coordinate the first number in an ordered pair of numbers that designates the location of a point on the coordinate plane; also called abscissa
y-axis the vertical number line in a coordinate plane
y-coordinate the second number in an ordered pair of numbers that designates the location of a point on the coordinate plane; also called ordinate
coordinate plane a plane in which the coordinates of a point are its distances from two intersecting perpendicular lines called axes
