terms
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| congruent line segments | line segments that have equal length |
| between | the position of a point that has collinear points on either side; if point B is between points A and C, then the length of AB plus the length of BC equals the length of AC |
| coordinate | a number on a number line or axis, giving the location of a point |
| length of a line segment | the distance between the segment’s endpoints |
| number line | a line for which every point corresponds to a real number and every real number corresponds to a point |
| x-axis | the horizontal number line in a coordinate plane |
| x-coordinate | the first number in an ordered pair of numbers that designates the location of a point on the coordinate plane; also called abscissa |
| y-axis | the vertical number line in a coordinate plane |
| y-coordinate | the second number in an ordered pair of numbers that designates the location of a point on the coordinate plane; also called ordinate |
| coordinate plane | a plane in which the coordinates of a point are its distances from two intersecting perpendicular lines called axes |
