| political party | An organized group of people with similar political goals. |
| Two-Party System | Where two main political parties dominate elections and the government. |
| Third Party | A party that is contending for votes but is a minor to the other two parties |
| Platform | The declared policy of a political group |
| Caucus | a group of people within a political party with shared concerns |
| Political machines | group with an authoritative boss that commands the support of a group of supporters |
| Direct Primary | election which voters choose candidates to run in the subsequent election for public office |
| Closed primary | limited to registered party members, to ensure the election of strong candidates and to encourage party unity |
| open Primary | a primary election where voters are not required to have a party affiliation |
| plurality | The number of votes cast for a candidate that has more votes than other candidates but doesn't have the absolute number votes. |
| majority | the age when a person is considered an adult |
| petition | Something that is desired by a form of request or entreaty. |
| polling place | a building where voting takes place during an election. |
| Ballot | Process of voting, typically done in secrecy |
| Absentee ballot | A ballot done by a person usually previous to election time due to being unable to go to the polling place. |

| Electorate | all the people within a country or area who are eligible to vote. |

| Referendum | a general vote by the electorate on a single political question that has been referred to them |

| Propoganda | Biased information that is used to promote someone or something |
| Political action committee | Organization that raises money privately to influence elections. |
| Soft money | Contribution to a political that isn’t going to a particular candidate. |
| Public opinion | views that are prevalent among the general people |

| Interest group | natural outgrowth of the communities of interest |
| Public opinion poll | Survey of a public opinion from a particular sample |
| Pollster | A person who conducts public opinion polls |

| Public agenda | non profit organization that helps divers leaders navigate diverse issues. |
| Prior restraint | judicial suppression of material that would be published on grounds that it is harmful. |
| Malice | The intent to be or desire to be evil |
| Regulatory | intending to regulate something |
| Nonpartisian | not biased, usually to a political party |
| Lobbyist | people attempting to influence decisions made by officials in the government. |
