Recommendations of suspension without pay, reduction in pay, forfeiture of leave time demotion, or dismissal shall be routed through the chain–of–command to the Undersheriff
with the exception of probationary employees who cannot perform their job function
The probationary employee’s Director will make the recommendation regarding the termination of the employee when it relates to performance issues
The Personnel Division will be responsible for the preparation of documents only dealing with the termination of probationary employees
who are terminated for performance related issues

The Sheriff is not bound by the recommendations of subordinates and shall, as an elected constitutional officer considering all recommendations, independently
