| The underlying purpose of such constraints is to nurture general confidence | in the law enforcement system by fostering exemplary personal conduct and fairness in matters of social or political interaction |
| Members' actions have a symbolic importance | reaching beyond the immediate consequence |
| Acceptance of these obligations will enhance the Sheriff's Office | contributions to the well being of the community served |
| Departure from the Truth | All employees have a duty to be truthful in all civil, criminal, and administrative investigations |
| On or off–duty, employees shall not knowingly depart from the truth in making reports | affidavits, court documents, in giving testimony, or in connection with any official duties |
| This includes oral or written statements that are intentionally inaccurate, incorrect | incomplete or misleading or a deliberate, material omission |
| Failure to be Wholly Candid: All employees have a duty to be truthful | in all civil, criminal, and administrative investigations or inquiries |
| Employees, who during an interview, within a civil, criminal or administrative investigation or inquiry | recant their previous testimony within the same interview, shall be deemed to have committed Failure to be Wholly Candid |
| Employees who repudiate their previous testimony are further obligated | to admit their attempted failure to be forthcoming in previous testimony and are further directed to provide truthful testimony |
| In order to avoid the appearance of impropriety | Sheriff's Office personnel shall not, except to the extent required by their job |
| Members shall not | purchase or drink alcoholic beverages while in uniform |
| On duty, members shall not purchase or drink alcoholic beverages | except as authorized or required for the performance of assigned duties |
| nor shall they report for any tour of duty displaying the odor of alcohol | be under the influence of alcohol, or having a blood alcohol level as defined by the appropriate employee contracts |
| Members on or off–duty shall not drink alcohol | and drive city vehicles except as authorized and required in the performance of their assigned duties |
| Off–duty members shall not drink alcohol | to the point of impairment and try to take police action |
| When taking medications or using therapeutic treatments that could impair performance | members shall immediately notify their supervisor via Intradepartmental Correspondence Form (P–0004) |
| Upon receipt of the Form P–0004, the supervisor shall: Immediately forward the Form P–0004 | to the Personnel Division, to be placed in the employee's medical record file |
| Members who have a damage suit filed against them by reason of acts performed by them in the line of duty | shall immediately notify their Commanding Officer in writing, who in turn, shall notify the Sheriff |

| Unbecoming conduct shall include that which brings the Sheriff's Office | into disrepute or reflects discredit upon the employee as a member of the Sheriff's Office |
| or that which impairs the operation or efficiency | of the Sheriff's Office or employee |
| Members shall not participate | in any sexual conduct while on duty |
| Members shall not participate in any | immoral, indecent, lewd, or disorderly conduct while on or off–duty |
| Members shall not, whether on or off duty, engage in actions that tend to impair the operations | of the Sheriff's Office and its efficiency or adversely affect the Sheriff's Office reputation in the community |
| Examples of prohibited conduct include but are not limited to | Sleeping while on duty |
| Aiding or abetting the escape | of a prisoner |
| Accepting or soliciting | a bribe |
| Accepting gratuities | and rewards |
| Interfering with the ability of supervisors | to maintain discipline |
| Departing from | the truth |
| Obtaining attorneys or bondsmen | for prisoners |
| Accepting money to be turned | in to the Court Clerk as a fine |
| Feigning sickness or injury | to escape duty |
