body planes and sections

TermDefinition
sagittal section cut along the longitudinal plane of the body. * divides the body into left and right parts
midsagittal section cut down the median plane * right and left parts are equal
frontal section a cut along a lenghwise plane *divides the body or an organ into anterior and posterior parts (also called coronal section)
transverse section a cut along a horizontal plane *divides the body or organ into into superior and inferior parts (also called a cross section)
