Government Vocab

Unitary Government where power is held by one ruling body
Federal Government where power is divided between one large ruling body and several ruling bodies
Autocracy Government where one ruler makes all the decisions. The people have no say
Oligarchy Government where small body makes all the decisions, only people in the ruling party get to vote for the laws.
Democracy Government where all citizens vote for representatives who make decisions
Dictator Government where military ruler has total control. This is a unitary autocracy
Communism Government where ruling body has complete control of the government and economy. This a unitary oligarchy.
Parliamentary democracy Government where one legislative body writes the laws for the entire country. Members of Parliament elect leader called a Prime Minister
Presidential democracy Government with two or more legislatures that create laws separately. Citizens elect leader called a President
