What are the two major concerns with existing cabling? Abandoned cable and Grandfather systems that are not up to code.
What is the most critical step in the retrofit process? The Cutover
What are the two types of cutovers? Flash and Phased
What is a Flash Cutover? One continuous process until complete.
What is a Phase Cutover? Portions of the old system are transferred to the new system in groups.
What are two types for Flash Cutovers? Hot Cut and Rolling Cut.
What is a Hot Cut? Customer is out of service till all is completed.
What is a Rolling Cut? Cross-connect is relocated one pair at a time.
What is floating back board? A new back board suspended from the ceiling that the new cable are terminated to.
What two things shall be done with abandoned cable? Remove it or mark it as future use.
If abandoned cable is decided to be used future use, what two things do you need to do with it? It shall be labeled future use and terminated at both ends.
Some times users in a work areas may need to be moved while the new cables are installed. What is the cheapest and easiest way to do this? Use temporary cable.
What is the one thing you should be concerned about when running temporary cable? Fire and Safety codes.
You have use an xray mech to test for support cables in a concrete floor. You have found nothing, should you proceed to drill? No. Only a qualified contractor shall do this.
