There are 3 curvatures in the vertebral column, not counting the sacrum & coccyx. Name them and how many bones they're composed of. Cervical (C1-C7), Thoracic (T1-T12), Lumbar (L1-L5)
What are the vertebrae separated by and what does it do? pads of fibrocartilage (intervertebral discs), absorb shock
What are abnormal spinal curvatures? Scoliosis, Kyphosis, Lordosis
What is the bone that is usually broken when doing CPR and what is it attached to? xiphoid process, sternum
Another name for C1 and C2 is? atlas, axis
What is the bony thorax and what bones is it made up of? skeleton of the chest/ ribs, sternum, thoracic vertebrae, costal cartilage
How many pairs of ribs are there in the human body? 12 pairs
How many true ribs are there in the human body? 7 (ribs 1-7)
What is the space between the ribs called? intercostal space
What type of cartilage is used to attach the ribs to the sternum? hyaline
How many parts is the sternum made up of & name them. manubrium, body, xiphoid process
How many false ribs are there in the human body? 5 (ribs 8-12)
How many floating ribs are there in the human body? 2(ribs 11-12)
How many ribs are there in all in the human body? 24
Name the four common types of bones found in the human body. long, flat, irregular, short
How many bones are there in an adult skeleton? 206
What are the two special types of bones found in the skeleton? sesamoid, wormian (sutural bones)
