| Bureaucracy | An organization consisting of departments and agencies formed to help the president carry out his mission. |
| Iron triangle | An interaction between an agency, a congressional committee and an interest group to create policy. |
| Independent Executive Agency | |
| Independent Regulatory Committee | Federal agencies that make regulations for certain aspects of the economy. |
| Government Corporation | A government owned corporation that is run like a business and manages commercial activities and charges for them. |
| Administration Discretion | Congress gives the federal bureaucracy the power to do what they think is best in carrying out laws. |
| Lame duck | Referring to the time when the president serves the rest of his term shortly before he leaves office. |
| Cabinet | Advisers of the president, they help the president make decisions. |
| Office of Management and Budget | An agency that helps the president write the federal budget |
| Executive Order | A document written by the president that has the effect of a law. |
| Executive Privilege | A right that the president have that allows him to keep information secret from the public. |
| Neutral competence | The principle that bureaucracies should not be partisan or biased. |
| Hatch Act | It limited political activity by civil servants. |
| Impeachment | The process of removing a public official after an act of misconduct by the public official. |
| Veto | Rejection of a bill. |
