Neighborhood Parks Btw 3 acres (min) and 10 acres (preferred). Base unit of park system. Service area should be 1/4 - 1/2 miles to promote walking, should not be interrupted by major roads or barriers.
Community Parks Trails for peds and bikes, swimming pools, tennis courts, picnic areas, ballparks, seek to preserve natural features and open space. Btw 20 acres and 40 acres. Service area may go through several neighborhoods or entire community.
Large urban parks Built for big metropolitan areas with large populations. Range btw 50 acres - 300 acres. Provide scenic vistas that preserve natural characteristics and open space. Range of rec activities + equestrian trails, fishing areas, athletic arenas, zoos, gardens
Youth athletic complexes or facilities Consolidated into a few easily accessible areas w/in the community. Btw 20 acres (min) and 80 acres (preferred). May serve additional community functions.
Community athletic complexes or facilities Normally tournament-level quality, confined to a few areas w/in the community. Range btw 20 acres and 80 acres.
Regional parks and park reserves Preserve land and ecology. Can cover 500 acres
Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) Applies to a group of procedures designed to identify any drop in air quality. All criteria pollutants.
Water Quality Buffer Refers to a strip of land adjacent to a water body or wetland. contains undisturbed natural vegetation, and helps to filter sediment and to reduce storm water runoff, erosion, and scour.
Greenways Used to connected multiple wildlife habitats or create water quality buffers that filter runoff and prevent pollutants from entering water bodies. Must be 66 to 99 feet in width, cannot be tilled for farming.
