Domestic Policy | Policies that focus on Issues within the United States of America |
LBJ's "War on Crime" | Plan by LBJ to reduce Crime in America, It did cut down on the rate of crime as far as how fast it was increasing but did not cut down on the amount of Crime |
Federal Spending on Crime Initiatives | Switched Crime initiatives from private and local funding to federal subsidies for officer pay checks and prison maintenance. |
Harsher Punishments | Changed the level of offenses, Federal Offenses and Misdemeanors; different punishment based on the severity of the crime |
Three Strikes Law | Created by State Governments, Mandates that courts give harsher punishments to repeat offenders, normally declared after the 3rd time of the same serious offense |
"War on Drugs" | Attempt by the US and other nations to cut down on drug trafficking by regulation and military intervention |
Brown V. Board | Separate but equal is not actually equal, Repealed Plessy V Ferguson, no more Discrimination. |
State Government's Role in Education | Follow national standards but at the same time, states determine their own regulations and funding |
Elementary and Secondary Education Act (1965) | Part of LBJ's war on poverty, focused on making sure that everyone had an education, yay public education but for the time being, forbade a national curriculum. |
Department of Education | Executive department to focus on education, under the cabinet, focuses on regulation, the bureaucracy of education. |
School Vouchers | Voucher issued by the government to parents to spend on their child's education, public or private, through high school. |
No Child Left Behind | Changes to ESEA to establish a national standard that all states must adhere to to ensure that every student is getting the same basic education |
Renewable Resources | Resources that can be readily and massively produced such as solar and wind energy as opposed to things like coal and oil which are finite |
Global Warming | Theory that greenhouse gases are destroying the ozone layer, causing the earth to become warmer from UV rays and melt the polar ice caps and KILL US ALL |
Toxic Waste Disposal (Superfund) | Federal funding and allowing for government agencies to allow for clean up of hazardous materials released into the government |
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) | Independent Regulatory Agency to focus on regulations to protect the enviroment. |
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) | A Statement that must be released on any proposed legislation; Helps aid the decision making process |
Clean Air Act (1970) | Regulates air emissions and focuses on clean air quality initiatives. |
Water Pollution Control Act (1972) | Added to the clean air act for the purpose of also focusing on clean water quality initiatives. |
Endangered Species Act (1973) | Combating extinction for endangered animals "at any cost" -Not completely effective |
Medicare | Socialized healthcare; government funding; for US citizens age 65+ |
Medicaid | Socialized health care; government funding; for US citizens with income below a certain limit that changes with the economy |
Veterans Administration (VA) | Cabinet status department focusing on benefits programs for US veterans and their families |
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) | Created by FDR for the focus of providing regulations for food and medicine to ensure the safety of US Citizens |
Clinton's Health Care Proposals | Health Security Act Supposed to provide UNIVERSAL healthcare and failed |
Obama-Care | Affordable Healthcare Act Focused on providing all Americans with Health Insurance; Currently failing. Huge Controversy. Stupid. |
Social Welfare Origins | New Deal Social Security Act; Etc. |
Social Security Act | New deal policy Old Age, Survivors, Retirement and Disability Insurance policy; Made everyone a number to the gov't. Government benefits. |
LBJ's Great Society | LBJs plan for the war against racism and poverty; many new major spending programs, healthcare, education, etc. |
Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) | part of the Social Security Act to provide funding and welfare for families with children with little or no income |
Temporary Assistant for Needy Families (TANF) | Provided the Cash Benefit for the AFDC Act |
Gun Control | Policies that focus on the elimination of proliferation of firearms. Controversial |
