First ten Amendments

DescritpionAmendment
Freedom of Religion: The Government can't choose one religion over another. You can choose which or no religion to follow 1
Freedom of Speech: Limited: Can't scream FIRE in a crowded theater. Can't lie about someone(Slander) 1
Freedom of the Press: Can print something as long as it's true. 1
Freedom of peaceful Assembly: Right to have a gathering as long as it is peaceful 1
Freedom to petition the government for change: Ask the government to make changes 1
Gun Ownership: This can and is limited 2
Quartering of Soldiers: Cannot house soldiers in private homes or property without the permission of the owner 3
Unreasonable searches and seizures: Protect yourself, property, and documents. Police need a search warrant and they have to have evidence. 4
Double Jeopardy: Can't be tried twice for the same crime 5
Can't be forced to be a witness against yourself: The government cannot force you to tesitfy at your own trial 5
Eminent Domain: The government taking private property for the public use as long as they pay you a fair market value 5
Speedy Public Trial: Government can not hold you in jail while they build a case against you. OR have your trial behind your back. 6
Informed of the charges: Police must inform you why you are being arrested 6
Right to a lawyer: A professional to represent you at trial 6
Trial by Jury: This gives us the right to present the case to a jury of our peers 7
No excessive bail or fines: Bail money paid to get out of jail till you go to court. Fines: Monitary punishment 8
No cruel or unusual punishment 8
The people have more right than are listed: Gives the people more rights than are listed in the Constitution. Freedom of choice amendment 9
Rights of the People and States: Rights that are not given to the Federal Government are given to the State government. Education and marriage laws. 10
