| Global warming | the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans |
| Greenhouse effect | the process by which the emission of infrared radiation by the atmosphere warms the Earth’s surface |
| Hydropower | power produced by capturing the energy of falling water |
| Natural gas | fossil fuel taken from the earth in the form of a gas |
| Nuclear energy | energy produced by the fission of atomic nuclei |
| Seismograph | device using sound waves to find fossil fuels |
