just like the U.S. Constitution, GA's constitution divides the power and responsibility of government into 3 branches ... legislative, executive, and judicial
separating powers creates a limited government
Checks and Balanced each branch of government has some power to control or prevent some actions of the other two branches. this system ensures that no one branch becomes too powerful
judicial determines whether or not laws are constitutional
executive can veto bills passed by the leg. and can call special sessions of the leg. it also has some appointment powers when officers of the court resign or die
legislative can impeach, veto and confirm appointment
