| pugnacious | Adj. ready and able to resort to force or violence; combative; warlike; belligerent Pugn= “fight” ous= “having features of” The pugnacious teacher wrote a lot of referrals. |
| perfidious | Adj. treacherous; not to be trusted because of betrayal. Derivative: perfidy, noun: an act of lying or betrayal. Per = “through” perf = “holes” e.g. will stab you in the back. Larry was perfidious because he betrayed me. |
| incontrovertible | Adj. Impossible to deny or disprove. In=“not” controversy= “dispute or fight” The proof that the lawyer presented was incontrovertible and proved his case. |
| arbiter | Noun, someone chosen to judge or decide a disputed issue. Derivatives: arbitration, noun, the act of settling an issue through a third party who judges the outcome. The counselor served as an arbiter between the parents and the student. |
| pertinent | Adj. Having precise or logical relevance to the matter at hand…i.e. important. Per=“through” important throughout The evidence that the lawyer presented was pertinent to the case. |
