| What does the establishment clause say? | "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." |
| What does the free exercise clause do? | Prohibits citizen's freedom to or not to worship as they wish from being compromised. |
| Why did the Framers create the establishment clause? | Religious persecutions that caused many to come to the U.S. in the first place. |
| What did the case, Lemon v. Kurtzman (1971) find? | In order to give aid to church related schools, it must have a secular purpose, have an effect that doesn't advance or slow religion, and not promote religion to entangle with government. |
| What happened in Zelman v. Simmons-Harris? | The court upheld a program that gave some families vouchers to pay tuition with at religious schools in Cleveland, Ohio. |
