What is a colony? Land that is ruled by another country.
What are colonists? People that go to live in a land ruled by another country or a colony.
What are buffer zones? A part of land that is used as a barrier for protection.
What are borderlands? The buffer zone that is north of New Spain.
What is a Spanish fort called? Presidio

What is a hacienda? A large estate where cattle and sheep are raised.
Able to provide for one's own needs without help. What is self-sufficient.
What is a missionary? A person sent out by a church to spread its religion.
What is a mission? A small religious settlement.
What is a royal colony? A colony ruled directly by a monarch.
What is a war between two groups of the same country? civil war
