Limited Government system where power is restricted by the people
Checks and Balances When no branch of government can be more powerful that another. They can check each others power and decisions.
Electoral College The process where delegates from each state choose the president
3/5 Compromise Says that 5 slaves are equal to 3 free people in terms of representation. Lowers the population and power of large slaves states
Bill of Rights The first ten Amendments to the Constitution
Ratification Approval process for states to approve the Constitution
Constitution Document that creates the government in the US. Creates three branches and guarantees the citizens rights
Northwest Ordinance Creates a process for areas to become states. Also says that 3 to 5 states must be created in the Ohio Territory.
Impressement When property or people (sailors)are seized and force to work for another countries Navy.
Protective Tariffs A Tax put on imported goods to protect that countries domestic industries.
