| abate | to subside or become more moderate. ex. "Waiting for the storm to abate" |
| aberrant | abnormal or unusual ex. "The aberrant monkey at the zoo made us doubt the genuine animals" |
| abrasive | to rub away or grind down ex. "Abrasive cleaning materials tend of wear down shiny surfaces" |
| abstemious | very moderate and restrained, usually having to do with eating. ex. "Anorexic people are very abstemious" |
| abstruse | very obscure or difficult to understand ex. "The abstruse essay made my head hurt" |
| acclaim | To praise or approve of ex. "Most people did not acclaim Einstein's creation of the atomic bomb" |
