Receptor Distribution

TermDefinition
somatic receptors -found within the body wall. -include receptors for chemicals, temperature, pain, touch, proprioception and pressure.
visceral receptors -found within the walls of the viscera. -respond to chemicals, temperature and pressure
special senses located only in the head such as gustation, olfaction, vision, equilibrium and hearing
tactile receptors -most numerous -touch ,pressure, vibration, temperature, textures, shapes, pain, movement of hair. -in dermis and subcutaneous layer of skin
