Blood antigen | A protein present on the surface of red blood cells that determine a person's bllod type |
Donor | One who furnishes something, such as blood, tissue, or organs, to be used in another individual |
Gene | A unit of heredity |
Glycogen | The form in which carbohydrate is stored in the body |
Glycosylation | The process of glucose attaching to hemoglobin |
HDL cholesterol | A lipoprotein, consisting of protein and cholesterol from the cells |
Hemoglobin A 1c | Compound formed when glucose attaches or glycosylates to the protein in hemoglobin |
Hyperglycemia | An abnormally high level og glucose in the blood |
HYpoglycemia | An abnormally low level of glucose in the blood |
In vitro | Occurring in glass. Refers to tests performed under artifical conditions, as in the lab |
In vivo | Occuring in the living body or organisim |
LDL cholesterol | A lipoprotein, consisting of protein and cholesterol, that picks up cholesterol and delivers it to cells |
Lipoprotein | A complex molecule consisting of protein and a lipid fraction such as cholesterol. Lipoproteins function in transporting lipids in the blood |
Recipient | One who recieves something, such as a blood transfusion from a donor |
