sectionalism a narrow-minded concern for the intrest of one section of a country
splinter parties thoose who have split away from one of the major parties
split ticket voting voting for canidates of different parties for differnt offices at the same election
suffrage the right to vote
gerrrymandering the pratice of drawing electoral district lines
political socializating the proccess by which the people gain their political attitudes and opinions
independent people who have no party afflication
direct primary an elcetion held within a party to to pick that partys canidate for the general elections
closed primary a party nominating elction in which only declared party members can vote
ballot the device voters use to register a choice in an election
political action committee (PAC) the political extension of special intrest groups which have a major stake in public policy
soft money money given to states and local party organizatins for voting related activites
hard money campaign money that is subject to regulations by the FEC
public affairs thoose events and issues that concern the people at large
mass medias those means of communication that reachs large audicences : espically tv and radio
public opinion poll the comples collection of the opions of many different people
sample a represenative slice of the public
quota sample a sample deliberately constructed to reflect several of the major characteristics of a given population
public policy all of the many goals that a government pursues in alll of the many cucas of human affairs in which it is involed
labor union an organization of workers who share the same type of job and press for the government policies that will benefit their memebers
propaganda a technique of persuaron aimed at influencing indiviual or group behaviors to create a particular beliefe
lobbying activites by which group preesure brought to bear on the legislative, the legisaltive process , and all aspects of the public-policy making process
