| faction | conflicting groups |
| electorate | people eligiable to vote |
| sectionalism | a narrow-minded concern for the intrest of one section of a country |
| splinter parties | thoose who have split away from one of the major parties |
| split ticket voting | voting for canidates of different parties for differnt offices at the same election |
| suffrage | the right to vote |
| gerrrymandering | the pratice of drawing electoral district lines |
| political socializating | the proccess by which the people gain their political attitudes and opinions |

| propaganda | a technique of persuaron aimed at influencing indiviual or group behaviors to create a particular beliefe |
| lobbying | activites by which group preesure brought to bear on the legislative, the legisaltive process , and all aspects of the public-policy making process |
