How does democracy fit into that classification? A Rule by the Many.

Distinguish direct from representative democracy. * Direct-- public business is decided by all citizens meeting in small assemblies. * Representative-- people rule through elected representatives
What are the arguments for and against a representative democracy? 1. Popular Sovereignty 2. Political Liberty 3. Political Equality
What is majority tyranny? suppression of the rights and liberties of minority by the majority.
What is popular Sovereignty? The Basic Principle of democracy that the people are the ultimate source of government authority and of the policies that government leaders make.
What is political equality? The Principle that says that each person carries equal weight in the conduct of the public business.
What is meant by political liberty? Citizens protected from government interference
