Exudate | material such as fluid and cells, that has excaped from blood cessels during the inflammatory process |
Serous exudate | consists chiefly of serum, which is the clear portion of the blood |
sanguineous exudate | red in color and consists of red blood cells. results when cappilaries are damaged, allowing the escape pf RBCs and is frequently seen in open wounds |
Purulent exudate | contains pus, which consists of leukocytes, dead liquefied tissue debris, and dead and living bacteria. usually thick and has an unpleasant odor, white in color but may acquire tinges of pink, green, or yellow. |

serosanguineous exudate | consists of clear and blood-tinged drainage and is commonly seen in surgical incisions |
purosanguineous exudate | consists of pus and blood and is often seen in a new wound that is infected. |
