| Political Party | an organization of people who share similar ideas on issues |
| nominate | to select a candidate |
| candidate | a person seeking an office |
| campaign | an organized effort to persuade voters to vote for a particular candidate |
| party platform | a statement of a party's beliefs on issues |
| third parties | minor political parties/any party other than democrat or republican |
| two-party system | having two strong political parties |
| primary election | an election in which voters of various parties choose a candidate |
| general election | an election in which voters choose their leaders |
| polling place | a place where you go to vote |
| secret ballot | the method in which a person marks a ballot in secret |
| popular vote | the vote cast by citizens in a presidential election |
| electorate | eligible voters - people who have the right to vote in an election |
