lord | a-well-to-do noble who owned an estate; a lord usually lived in a castle, gave land to vassals in return for military serve, and used serfs to farm his land |
vassal | a noble who was givin land by the lord in return for military assistance and other services to the lord |
fief | land givin by a lord to a vassal in return for military and services |
guild | a medieval organization for crafts workers and trades people |
Magna Carta | the "Great Charter," agreeded to by King John of England in 1215 which gave certain rights and LIMITED THE POWER OF KING |
Charlemagne | considered the greatest king of Middle Ages; was the first king ordained by a pope; ethncity was Frank (French and German) |
William the Conqueror | Norman king who defeated the Anglo-Saxon king and became the first Norman king of England |
King John I | King of England from 1199-1216; signed Magna Carta in 1215 giving more rigths to British nobles |
England | Part of the UK on the island of Great Britian |
