Question | Answer |
What is Connective Tissue ? | Is found throughout the body; most abundant and widely distrubted in primary tissues. |
What are the Four types of tissues of connective tissues? | Connective tissues proper, cartilage, bone & blood. |
What is Connective tissues function? | Binding & support, Protection, Insulation, & Transporation. |
List some characteristics of Connective Tissues. | -Mesenchyme as their common tissue of origin -Varying degrees of vascularity -Nonliving extracellular matrix, consisting of ground substance & fibers. |
List some Structural Elements of Connective tissues. | -Ground substance are unstructed materials that fills the space between cells. -Fibers are collagen elastic or reticular. -Cells are Fibroblasts, Chondroblasts, Osteoblasts, & Hematopoietic Stem Cells {Blood Cells}. |
List some Ground Substances. | -Interstitial (tissue) fluid -Adhesion proteins are Fibronectin & Laminin -Proteoglycans are glycosaminogly cans {GAGs} -It functions as a molecular sieve through which nutrients diffuse between blood capillaries and cells. |
List characteristics of Fibers. | Collagen are tough, provides high tensile strength. Elastic is long, thin fiberes that allow for stretch. Recticular are branched, collagenous fibers that form delicate networks. |
List charcteristics of Cells. | Fibroblasts are connective tissue proper. Chondroblasts are cartilage. Osteoblasts is bone. Hematopoietics stem cells are blood. White blood cells, plasma cells, marcophages, & mast cells. |
List the characteristic of Embryonic. | Mesenchyme are embryonic connective tissue. They are gel-like ground substance with fibers and star shaped mesenchymal cells. It gives rise to all other connective tissues and are found in the embyro. |
List the characteristics of Areolar Connective Tissue. {Loose) | Gel-like matrix with all 3 connective tissue fibers. Fibroblasts, macrophages, mast cells & some white bloods cells. It wraps and cushions organs. It is widely distributed throughout the body. |
List the characteristics of Adipose Connective. (loose) | Matrix are similar to a reolar connective tissue with closely packed adipocytes. Reserves food stores, insulates against heat loss, & supports and protects. It is found under the skin, around kidneys, within abdomen, & in breasts. |
More... Adipose Connective | The Local fat deposits serve nutrient needs of highly active organs. |
List the Reticular connective tissue. | It has loose ground substance with reticular fibers. Recticular cells lie in a fiber network. It forms a soft internal skeleton or stroma, that supports other cell type. Found in lymph nodes, bone narrow & the spleen. |
List the characteristics of Dense Regular. | Parallel collagen fibers with a few elastic fibers. Major cell type is fibroblasts. It attaches muscles to bone or to other muscles and bone to bone. Founf in tendons, ligaments, & aponeuroses. |
List the characteristics of Dense Irregular. | |
Cartilage | |
List the characteristics of Hyaline Cartilage. | Amorphous, firm matrix woth imperceptible network of collagen fibers. Chondrocytes lie in lacunae. It supports, reinforces, cushions, & resists compressions. It forms the costal cartliage a |
More about hyaline ... | It forms the costal cartilage and is found in embryonic skeleton, the end of long bones, nose, trechea, & larynx. |
List characteristics of Elastic Cartilage. | It is similar to hyaline but wit more elastic fibers. It maintains shape & structure while allowing flexiblility. It supports the external ear {pinna} and the epiglottis. |
List the charcteristics of Fibrocartilage. | Matrix similar to hyaline cartilage but less firm with thick collagen fibers. It prvides tensile strength & absorbs compression shock. It is found in intervertebral dics, the public sympysis and in discs of knee joint. |
Bone {osseous tissue} | Hard, calcified matrix with collagen fibers found in bone. Osteocytes are found in lacunae & are well vascularized. It supports, protects, &provides levers for muscular action. Stores calcuim, minerals,& fat. Marrow inside bones is hematopoiesis.(si |
Blood | Red & white cells in a fluid matrix {plasma} It contained within blood vessels. It functions in the transport of respiratory gases nutrients and wastes. |
