endotracheal intubation | insertion of a tube into the trachea via the nose or mouth to open the airway |
expectorant | drug that breaks up mucus & promotes coughing to remove it |
nebulizer | device used to convert a liquid medication to a mist & deliver it to the lungs with the aid of a deep inhalation |
pulmonary function test | diagnostic tests performed to determine the cause of lung disease by evaluationg lung capacity through the use of spirometry |
resuscitation | artificial respiration used to restore breathing |
mechnical ventilation | technique used by respiratory therapist to provide assisted breathing with the use of a ventilator which pushes air into the patient's airway |
arterial blood gases | clinical test on blood to identify levels of O2/CO2 |
