| chronological | events placed in order of when they took place |
| era | a period of time that is associated with a particular person ,event, or quality |
| landform | shapes & types of land |
| tectonic plates | the theory that the earth's surface is divided into a number of plates which float independently over hot liquid rock, forming new land patterns and causing earthquakes |
| Climate | the average weather of a place over a period of 20-30 years |
| vegetation | plant life that grows in an area |
| culture | the customs, ideas, beliefs, and skills of people. |
| Physical geography | the study of land and it's features |
| Human geography | learning about people and their ways |
| globe | the most accurate "picture" of the earth, it is a sphere with a map of earth printed on it |
| relief | a change in elevation |
| physical map | a map that highlights many of the natural features of a place, such as mountains, plains, rivers, and lakes using color and shading |
| political map | a map that shows features of a place such as, countries, states, and cities |
| drought | long periods in which rainfalls at a much lower rate than usual and may cause severe damage crops |
| irrigation | an artificial way to supply water to crops |
| hunter-gatherers | people who survived by searching for wild plants and animals to eat |
