| Term | Definition |
| Heredity | The passing on of physical or mental characteristics genetically from one generation to another. |
| Alleles | One of two or more alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the same place on a chromosome. |
| Dominant Allele | an allele that expresses a phenotypical character over another allele |
| Recessive Allele | A type of allele that when present on its own will not affect the individual |
| Genotype | The genetic constitution of an individual organism. |
| Phenotype | The observable characteristics of an individual organism. |
| Homozygous(Purebred) | Having two identical alleles of a particular gene or genes. |
| Heterozygous(Hydrid) | Having two different versions of the same gene |
| Gametes | Reproductive cells, also known as sex cells, in animals and plants. |
| Homologous | Having the same relative position, value, or structure. |
| Karyotype | The number and visual appearance of the chromosomes in the cell nuclei of an organism or species. |
