| Trait | A quality or characteristic |
| Offspring | Two parent's child or creation |
| Gene | A segment of DNA that controls a trait |
| Alleles | The different forms of a gene (ex for eye color gene, allele would be brown eyes) |
| Genetics | The scientific study of heredity |
| Recessive Allele | An allele that is hidden whenever the dominant allele is present |
| Dominant Allele | One whose trait always shows up in the organism when the allele is present |
| Homozygous | An organism who has two identical alleles for a trait |
| Heterozygous | An organism who has two different alleles for a trait |
| Genotype | An organism's genetic makeup, or allele combinations |
| Phenotype | An organism's physical appearance or visible traits |
| Genetic Disorder | An abnormal condition that a person inherits through genes or chromosomes |
| Carrier | A person who has one recessive allele for a trait but does not have the trait |
| Genetic Engineering | The transfer of a gene from the DNA of one organism into another organism in order to produce an organism with desired traits |
| Punnett Square | A chart that shows all possible combinations of alleles that can result from a genetic cross |
| Probability | A number of how an event will occur |
| mutation | a random change to a gene that sometimes results in a new trait |
