Question | Answer |
Ovaries | The female reproductive glands that hold the female eggs and produce estrogen and progesterone, the female reproductive hormones |

Follicle | A tiny capsule (incasement) in the ovary in which the egg develops and matures |
Egg, ova, ovum | The female sex cell |
Ovulation | The release of the mature egg from the ovary and the time when the female is most able to get pregnant. It occurs in the middle of her cycle |
Menopause | Usually occurs when the female is 50-55 years old. All follicles will breakdown and the female no longer ovulates or menstruates |
Oopherectomy | The surgical removal of the ovaries usually because of cancer |
Fallopian Tubes | Two tubes, that attach each of the ovaries to the uterus. The cilia will push the egg through to the uterus within 4-6 days. |
Upper Third | The part of the fallopian tube where the egg is most often fertilized |
PID | Pelvic Inflammatory Disease- a blockage of the fallopian, leading to sterility in the female, usually caused by an untreated baterial infection like clamydia or gonorrhea |
Tubal Ligation | The cutting and tying of the fallopain tube permantly sterilizing the female |
Ectopic or Tubal Pregnancy | When the fertilized egg IMPLANTS OUTSIDE of the uterus |
Uterus | The female organ where the fetus develops and can stretch to hold a 21 inch long and eight pound baby. |
