Term | Definition |
Heterozygous | Having two DIFFERENT alleles for a trait (Tt) |
Allele | Another word for gene |
Genetics | The study of heredity |
Homozygous | Having two of the SAME alleles for a trait (like TT or tt) |
Genotype | The genetic make up or type such as Tt or TT |
Dominant | The gene or allele that wins over other allele, such as T (capital T) |
Phenotype | The physical characteristics or traits, such as tall or short. |
Recessive | The allele or gene that appears less often because the dominant allele makes it hide, such as t. |

Karyotype | A picture of chromosomes that are grouped in pairs. |
