What did the 13th Amendment do? | Ended slavery in 1865 under Johnson's plan |
What did the 14th Amendment do? | Guaranteed full citizenship status and rights to every person born in the US, including African Americans, ratified in 1868. |
What did the 15th Amendment do? | Guaranteed that no male citizen could be denied that right to vote on basis of "race, color, or previous condition of servitude" ratified in 1870. |
What was an effect of Radical Reconstruction? | Southern African Americans slowly lost the right to vote, legal separation of races became law in southern states, African American leaders lost spots in government. |
What is de jure segregation? | The legal separation of all races becoming law in southern states. |
What are some ways the power of African Americans was damaged? | Political scandals in the Grant administration, in 1871 troops were withdrawn from southern states, in 1872 Congress dissolved the Freedmen's Bureau. |
