Term | Definiton |
Superior Vena Cava | Vessel that returns blood from the upper half of the body back to the heart. |
Mediastinum | a membranous partition between two body cavities or two parts of an organ, especially that between the lungs. |
Myocardium | The muscular tissue of the heart. |
Endocardium | the thin, smooth membrane that lines the inside of the chambers of the heart and forms the surface of the valves. |
Pericardium | the membrane enclosing the heart, consisting of an outer fibrous layer and an inner double layer of serous membrane. |
Inferior Vena Cava | carrying blood from the lower body |
Right Atrium | Deoxygenated blood enters this.. |
Right Ventricle | the chamber within the heart that is responsible for pumping oxygen-depleted blood to the lungs |
Pulmonary Trunk | a major vessel of the human heart that originates from the right ventricle |
Pulmonary Artey | the artery carrying blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs for oxygenation. |
Pulmonary Vein | a vein carrying oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart |
Left Atrium | blood returning from the lungs and to act as a pump to transport blood to other areas of the heart |
Left Ventricle | It is located in the bottom left portion of the heart below the left atrium, separated by the mitral valve |

Thoracic Aorta | a part of the aorta located in the thorax |
