reference map | mapping that includes all valid relationships between a source system and a target system. |

GIS | A geographic information system(GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of geographical data. |
distance scale | In physics, length scale is a particular length or distance determined with the precision of one order of magnitude. |
directional indicator | Many technical traders will watch for the positive directional indicator to cross above the negative directional indicator to signal the beginning of an uptrend. |
inset map | More detailed (larger scale) representation of a specific area on a map usually placed in an uncluttered portion of the same sheet as the smaller scale main map. |

latitude (parallels) | A circle of latitude on the Earth is an imaginary east-west circle connecting all locations having a given latitude. A location's position along a circle of latitude is given by its longitude. |
longitude(meridians) | Angular distance on the earth's surface, measured east or west from the prime meridian at Greenwich, England, to the meridian passing through a position, expressed in degrees (or hours), minutes, and seconds. |
equator | an imaginary line drawn around the earth equally distant from both poles, dividing the earth into northern and southern hemispheres and constituting the parallel of latitude 0° |
prime merdian | a planet's meridian adopted as the zero of longitude.. |
northern hemisphere | the hemisphere that is to the north of the equator. |
southern hemisphere | the hemisphere to the south of the equator. |
eastern hemisphere | the hemisphere that includes Eurasia and Africa and Australia. |
western hemisphere | the hemisphere that includes North America and South America. |
continents | any of the world's main continuous expanses of land. |
map grid | A symbolized network of lines, or graticule, representing parallels and meridians or plane coordinates. |
